I’ve made the artwork for Baba Stiltz’s upcoming album Total! :-)
Baba Stiltz - Total (Studio Barnhus) - release date October 13 2014
Baba Stiltz hails from a tradition of funky outcasts centred around the calm yet unpredictable city of Stockholm, Sweden. Since his infant days he’s been guided through the nitty-gritty basics of what it is to be a true music lover by some of the city’s most prolific artists, producers and djs.Despite his youth, 20-year-old Baba boasts an impressive discography, with two albums of dreamy folk-pop (as The Betlehem Beard Corporation) and a string of hit singles within the elusive Skweee scene already under his belt. His more recent studio adventures have led to three 12” releases on Stockholm dance label Studio Barnhus as well as recurring production work for post-rap phenomenon Yung Lean.Total is Baba’s debut album under his own name and his finest work to date. From the opening machine-funk arpeggio of Missing to the sanguine melancholia of closing hiphop beat Discovery – New Dawn, Baba’s masterpiece rides through psychedelic screw-pop, minimalistic emo-acid and opiate-drenched coming-of-age-ambient. As lucid and strong as it is obscure and beautiful, this is an album us folks at Studio Barnhus are immensely proud of presenting to the world.Tracklist:A1: MissingA2: Reality SparksA3: Rain DanceA4: Sun DanceB1: Ja RuleB2. Milano Chow – Sofia Leiby –Malin Gabriella Nordin
LVL3 is excited to present Two rocks do not make a duck: a group show bringing together Milano Chow, Sofia Leiby, and Malin Gabriella Nordin. Chow’s fine detail in her illustrations reflect a decorative sense within her window-like compositions that lean towards domesticity. Leiby uses painting as a self-generative process, pushing memory aside using screen printing and layered mark-making. Nordin assembles forms with a unique undertone of emotion resting within its shadows.“Two rocks do not make a duck” is a hikers saying to remind oneself that one rock resting upon another does not alway signify an intentional cairn marking. The stacking of stones may not alway represent a direction, and a viewer must pay close attention in order to avoid being misled. These three artists address the viewer’s perspective of surface and how layering brings forward additional feelings from within the work.
